Buses also run regularly from Belize City and other towns to San Ignacio. From San Ignacio a taxi ride up to duPlooy's should cost you about $25.00.
Car Rental:
From Belize City take the Western Highway and head west for about 72 miles. You will be slightly detoured driving through San Ignacio, but just ask directions to the Western Highway heading towards the Benque border. Once you are on the highway again look for the duPlooy's sign after about 5 miles. Turn left on to a dirt road and follow the signs for about 5 more miles.
General Info
Water:
The water is safe to drink. The tap water comes from a 200' well and is perfectly fine, but if you prefer there is bottled water in 5-gallon containers in the bar and office where you can fill up your water bottles or purchase a water bottle and refill as necessary.
Electricity:
duPlooy's is powered by 110v current, the same as in the United States. The generator is usually on from 5am to 12pm. If something happens to the generator, as it does from time to time with machinery, you have kerosene lamps and matches in your room for power outages and after hour's illumination.
Food:
Our Meal Plan is $40 per person and includes breakfast, lunch and a 4 course dinner. You can also do a dinner and breakfast meal plan for $32.00, a breakfast only meal plan for $10.00 a day, a lunch only for $12.00 a day, or a dinner only for $24.00 a day. If you do not wish to be on a meal plan just order from the menu. We have daily specials as well as a set menu which includes vegetarian choices. We do not serve beef: see our reasons why under Environmental Responsibility section. Let us know if you have special dietary needs and we will do our best to meet them.
Tipping:
There is no standard for tipping. It should be done according to the quality of your experience and how generous you can afford to be. A gratuity of $5 per person per day is charged to all guests and divided amongst staff from groundskeepers to waiters (drivers/guides are not included). Tips are welcome and appreciated so if you had a positive experience and have some extra cash in your wallet then you may want to tip with an amount that you feel good about. If not just say 'thanks!'
Laundry:
Laundry service is available US$6.50/load, washed, dried and folded. In an effort to conserve energy, cut down on water waste, and lessen our impact on the environment, we ask guests to hang towels if they want to hold on to them and throw them on the floor when they are ready for new ones.
Phone/Fax/Internet/Snail Mail:
You can make telephone calls from the bar using a BTL telephone card purchased in Belize. You will not be able to use your international calling card. At the office you can send and receive faxes, use the internet and post letters.
